Celebrating 20 years of fun, sun and lasting friendships.
“Something more to celebrate...”
On a warm Friday evening in August with the National Weather Service predicting even more warmth and blazing sunshine under cloudless skies for the remainder of the weekend, four friends sat in a local pub sipping ice-cold brews and searching for something “different” to do to celebrate the beautiful weather. Perusing the pages of the Valley Advocate, an “alternative” weekly newspaper, they came upon an ad that ended their search. The die was cast. Their course of action was irrevocable.
Early Saturday morning they met at a local eatery for breakfast and then with stomachs full, lunches packed and coolers stocked, they began their adventure. With equal doses of excitement and trepidation, they made their way up route 9 West out of the Pioneer Valley and into the Berkshires of western Massachusetts.
In the vicinity of the New York border knowing they were very, very close, they traveled the winding back roads, back and forth, back and forth, as if lost, searching for a sign or landmark that would lead them to their destination. And then they found it. Up a long and dusty dirt road they traveled, certain that finally they were almost there. And sure enough…after nearly two miles a clearing emerged out of the wooded road and a large sign proclaimed: “Welcome to Birch Acres…Clothing Optional”.
It was Saturday, August 20th, 1983. And we haven’t looked back. Birch Acres is now Berkshire Vista Resort and when the Sunchasers celebrate their 20th anniversary at BVR this August 20th we will have a little something extra to celebrate…our 22nd year! Hope to see you there!
